2.a. : Ensure instructional innovation focused on continuous improvement of digital-age learning.
Artifact:
Description:
During fall 2016, I took GDIT 705: Courseware Design with Dr. Misook Heo. The big
project of the course was designing a learning module to teach a topic of our choice.
As we learned more about how to develop effective learning materials and
environments for students, we made modifications to our initial plans to
demonstrate our growth as professionals. I used a lesson that I had taught previously
in an online setting in order to see how basing instructional design on multimedia
principles could impact overall student learning.
Reflection:
I chose this particular artifact because it truly demonstrates continuous growth and improvement. We had three due dates for our learning module with the expectation that we would work on it as part of our asynchronous course requirements. The first due date was the initial building of the module, the second was a mid-point update with justification for any changes, and the third was the final update with modifications and justification. I have included all three of my assignments to show the changes that I made throughout the course with my growing knowledge base.
In addition, I have included the original lesson that I designed to serve as a baseline. Though the content was largely the same, I changed so much due to learning about how multimedia principles can affect student learning. By reading in the course and participating in my peers’ class facilitations, I was better able to design my site and activities that eliminated distractions so that students could focus purely on the content.
