4.a. : Lead purposeful change to maximize the achievement of learning goals through the appropriate use of technology and media-rich resources.
Artifact:
Description:
As part of GDIT 706: Developing a Learning Environment using Instructional Technology with Dr. David Carbonara in spring 2018, we were to create a Blendspace to introduce the topic of our learning environment. I used the resources and activities from the creation of the Blendspace to drive the design of my learning environment forward. Because of the time that I spent on creating my skeletal system Blendspace, I made sure to incorporate its completion into my final project, and I was able to test its effectiveness with two classes of third grade students in my building.
In addition, I have included the first Edpuzzle that I ever created in GDIT 703: Foundations of Instructional Technology with Dr. Misook Heo in May 2016. Due to its timeliness, I chose to focus my creation on the Olympics and what the first Olympics looked like. This was designed for second grade students, and the lesson explanation and connection to standards can be found in the related document.
Reflection:
Both of these artifacts demonstrate my commitment to using media-rich resources in order to capture attention and further student learning. When I was initially introduced to Blendspace, I struggled to find ways to implement it in the elementary setting, but over the past few years, their interface has improved drastically, and now it’s something that I enjoy using with my students. As mentioned above, I used this Blendspace within my learning environment that I created in GDIT 706, and then I actually tested it with two classes of third grade students. If you look at some of the slides with questions, you’ll notice the student responses.
I specifically mention above that it is my first Edpuzzle because once I learned of this tool, I was one of its strongest proponents. I was immediately fond of Edpuzzle and the fact that you could snip videos and embed questions and comments throughout. I have made several Edpuzzles since and have incorporated them both into the online course and learning environment that I designed. I particularly like to use them as anticipatory sets for lessons to get the students engaged in a topic and help further learning goals.
