Reflection: I would consider myself to be "Advanced" in this category. I have had opportunities to use different software in order to build my knowledge base in GILT 511, GILT 514, GILT 631, GILT 520, and GILT 518. All of these courses provided me with chances to learn about different types of software and their applications in the classroom.

Rating: Exceeds expectation

Artifacts:

  • Through the completion of a collaborative technology plan, I learned the importance of frequent technology assessments in school districts. We worked together to assess the district needs in order to create a technology plan that best fit its students and staff. This artifact can be found below in the attachments section.

  • Using Adobe Photoshop, I created a motivational poster that could be used in the
elementary classroom. The bright colors and simple text make the poster perfect for
younger students. Though there is still a lot to learn on the Photoshop software, I feel
confident using it to create materials for my classroom. I also feel that I could show
colleagues or peers how to use this tool for photo editing or classroom instruction.

  • In creating a Wiki page about Skype, I learned more about implementing this software
into the classroom setting. In reading and commenting on peers' Wikis I was able to
learn more about different hardware and software programs available for classroom use.

  • In GILT 631, I created a Digital Story using Microsoft Movie Maker. This story focused on
the impact that dance has had on my life. It helped me learn more about Movie Maker,
and it was a good refresher on using the program.

  • In GILT 518, I created two movies to help teachers assess student behavior. These movies included Word documents to help track each of the behaviors. The first video was observing one student while he was painting and served as the "educational" video. The second video was my "fun" observation video. Tracking sheets were created  for the first video and the second video to help viewers observe behaviors.

  • Along with the observation videos, I created a screencast for GILT 518. This screencast was created using Camtasia, and it was designed to give students a tutorial about the uses for PowerPoint.

  • In GSPE 503, I created a presentation on No Child Left Behind. In order to make this presentation more accessible to persons with disabilities, I used VoiceThread to record narration for the presentation.

  • In GILT 520, I learned how to use the presentation tool, Prezi, to create two presentations that I gave to my classmates. The first was on the emerging technology of learning analytics in education, and the second was on the role of technology in the K-12 science classrom.
