Standard B

The online teacher understands and is able to use a range of technologies, both existing and emerging, that effectively support student learning and engagement in the online environment.

Reflection: I would definitely consider myself to both meet and exceed the specifications for this standard. I am always looking for new technologies to enhance my learning. Though I love new technologies, I have a handful of technologies that are “tried and true” for me. EdPuzzle, which I used twice in my online course is one of those tools. The EdPuzzle videos that I have created for my online unit are about the sun and the planets. Both can be viewed using the public links below. Padlet is another one of my favorite “older” sites, and I was able to use that to allow my students to collaborate. In terms of new technologies in this unit, I was unaware of the site StudyJams. StudyJams is created by Scholastic and allows students to view short videos and slideshows about a variety of topics. I included three StudyJams links in my online course. Earlier in the semester I found the site, Voki. Voki allows the user to create a person (or animal or thing) and animate it using text-to-voice or voice recordings.

Artifacts:

  • Here are the links to my two EdPuzzle videos that I created for my online unit. The sun EdPuzzle is viewed by the students at the beginning of the second lesson, and the planet EdPuzzle is viewed as a review at the beginning of the third lesson.

  • View the Voki that I created for this online unit!
